How to Connect a Fronius Inverter to WiFi: A Late-Night Field Story About Small Customers and the Smallest Planet

The call at 11:47 p.m.

It was 11:47 p.m. on a Thursday in March 2024, and I was standing in my kitchen staring at my phone like it was a faulty inverter. The text glowed: "Fronius app says OFFLINE. Wife is on oxygen. Sorry to text this late."

This is the part of my job no one sees. I coordinate emergency field service for a renewable energy install company in the upper Midwest. In eight years, I've triaged 200+ rush calls, from a failed switch at a grain elevator to a roof-mount array that went quiet during a May derecho. But this one was different. The surprise wasn't that the WiFi dropped. That happens. The surprise was that the inverter was never the problem.
